Water Fuel Car-An Impossibility?

Is it really possible to make a car which runs on water?  Is the holy grail of free energy, a water fuel car, really a possibility?  The answer is no.  You cannot utilize something as stable as water as a source of energy.  It just doesn't work according to the laws of thermodynamics.  What you can do though is convert a car to run partially on water and increase its fuel efficiency.  How is this possibly?  It has to do with the fact that a car is an inherently inefficient system, and that by adding hydrogen and oxygen-the components of water-you can increase its efficiency tremendously.

For those of you who are physicists and want to stop reading, I challenge you to consider this: the average internal combustions engine only attains an energetic efficiency of about 20%.  What if I told you that by adding oxygen and hydrogen to the fuel/air mixture you could attain a more complete burn of the fuel, so much so that you will utilize more of the power that is available in the petroleum.  Intrigued?  The theory is that you are not actually making a net gain when using electrolysis to split water into hydrogen and oxygen and then burning it.  The laws of thermodynamics state that you will LOSE energy.  So what gives?  What gives is that by utilizing the interesting burn properties of a new, leaner fuel mixture, you will be able to get more power out of a given amount of fuel without it exiting through the exhaust pipe as unused emissions.  This is the basic principals behind increased miles per gallon by converting a vehicle to run partially on water.

For the laymen out there, how does this technology work?  The way it works is by an on board electrolytic system which actually splits water into hydrogen and oxygen on demand.  By splitting hydrogen and oxygen on board, you can actually feed these two gases as they are made directly into the engine via the air intake.  Obviously, your new air mixture will include more oxygen than is available in normal air.  This explains only a bit of why your car will gain greater efficiency.

The real reason your car will run more efficiently with a fuel air mixture enriched by hydrogen and oxygen supplied by the electrolysis of water is an interesting effect hydrogen has on the burn rate of the fuel air mixture itself.  It has been found that by adding hydrogen to the fuel air mixture, the actual flame spread during combustion within the combustion chamber becomes wider and more engulfing.  This means that almost all of the area within the combustion chamber is fully ignited at once.  This eliminates a process that is commonly known as knocking, where pockets of fuel and air ignite not in sync with the rest of the fuel air mixture within the chamber.  With decreased knocking and better flame distribution, optimal pressure waves within the combustion chamber are recorded and lead to a more efficient use of fuel.

In case you were wondering what more efficient use of fuel actually entails, some users of this water for fuel system have reported 50% or better gains in miles per gallon!  While this sounds extreme, the fact of the matter is that with the proper modification of any engine, increases in fuel efficiency can be expected.  More modest gains between 10% and 20% are to be expected by utilizing these systems without other engine modifications.  No matter what the extent of the fuel saved, it will mean money saved at the pump, which is the overall goal.
